International participation in a military force to stabilize the Gaza Strip is growing. The “Board of Peace” steering group initiated by US President Donald Trump said that military personnel from Morocco arrived in Israel last week to support planning for future operations. In addition to Morocco, countries such as Indonesia and Albania have also agreed to participate in a stabilization force for the Gaza Strip.
Relations between Israel and Morocco were officially normalized in December 2020 under the so-called Abraham Accords. Since then, both countries have significantly expanded their cooperation in the areas of security, economics, tourism and technology.
The relationship is also based on historical connections: for centuries, Morocco was home to one of the largest Jewish communities in the Arab world, and today hundreds of thousands of Israelis have Moroccan roots. However, the Gaza war has also strained relations.
What the stabilization force should do
The International Stabilization Force (ISF) is supposed to ensure security in the region. The force is part of efforts to resolve the Gaza conflict. US President Trump set up the “Peace Council” months ago, which critics see as competition to the United Nations, which Trump criticizes. Germany is not a member of the “Peace Council”. Trump is in the chair. The council will oversee reconstruction and a post-war order in the Gaza Strip.
It is still unclear when the deployment of the troops will actually begin. The Islamist terrorist organization Hamas rejects the disarmament planned in a peace plan. Israel, for its part, is continually expanding the area under its army’s control in the Gaza Strip. According to a report by the news portal “Walla”, this is now 70 percent of the coastal strip.
War started with Hamas massacres
The Gaza war was triggered by the massacre by Hamas and other extremist organizations on October 7, 2023. At that time, the terrorists killed around 1,200 people in Israel and abducted more than 250 others to the Gaza Strip. Israel then said it attacked Hamas positions. According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, more than 73,000 Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip, including many women and children. A ceasefire has been in effect since October 2025, but Israeli attacks and confrontations occur daily. (sda/dpa)
