The eldest son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Høiby (29), has officially filed an appeal against the recent court ruling against him. This was confirmed by his defense attorney to the Norwegian news agency NTB.

A court in Oslo sentenced him to four years in prison last week for 34 crimes. Høiby wants to defend himself against the conviction for two rapes under Norwegian law and for abuse in his relationship with an ex-girlfriend. Høiby was accused of four rapes, but was only convicted of two. In both cases he is said to have penetrated a woman with his finger while she was sleeping.
According to Norwegian media reports, the appeal process could take place next year. Høiby has been in custody since the beginning of February after violating a ban on contact with an ex-girlfriend. Citing his mother Mette-Marit’s severe lung disease, he had tried several times in recent months to be released from custody – without success. He started his last attempt immediately after the verdict. The court said no. According to the newspaper Aftenposten, Høiby does not want to appeal against this decision. (sda/dpa)
