A planned video link between EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels and US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who traveled to Berlin for Ukraine talks, did not take place due to connection problems.
EU chief diplomat Kaja Kallas said in Brussels that she did not know whether there had been a cyber attack. But it is clear that the technology did not work properly.
The video link initiated by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot was actually supposed to be about the status of the implementation of the US peace deal for the Gaza Strip. Witkoff and Kushner played a leading role in this. The two Americans are currently trying to prepare an agreement on behalf of US President Donald Trump to end Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
Internet problems also in the Bundestag
According to diplomats, a video link between the EU foreign ministers and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybiha, who was in Berlin like Witkoff and Kushner, worked without any problems.
The Bundestag also had to struggle with an internet failure today. Emails could no longer be sent. The cause is unclear, a spokesman said. It is also unclear whether there was a connection with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj’s visit to Bundestag President Julia Klöckner (CDU) in the afternoon. (sda/dpa)
