A Turkish C-130 military transport plane crashed in Georgia on Tuesday after taking off from Azerbaijan. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan expressed his condolences to the “martyrs” in a press conference. According to the Reuters news agency, search and rescue workers are on their way to the scene of the accident. The Turkish Defense Ministry said the crash occurred near the Georgia-Azerbaijan border. The measures to reach the scene of the accident are being coordinated with the Georgian authorities.
While Erdogan was finishing a speech in Ankara, his employees handed him a note. He then said he was saddened by the news of the plane crash. «God willing, we will overcome this crash with minimal difficulty. May God rest in peace the souls of our martyrs and may we be with them through our prayers,” he said.
20 people on board
There were 20 people on board, Turkish state broadcaster TRT reported, citing the Defense Ministry in Ankara.
The Georgian Interior Ministry told the Russian news agency Tass that the plane crashed in a Georgian district about five kilometers from the border. The crash is being investigated for a violation of aviation safety or operational regulations.
