Dozens of people were injured in a collision between two trains in western Slovakia.

According to authorities on Sunday, the trains were traveling between Svaty Jur and Pezinok, north of Bratislava, when they collided. There are around 800 people on the trains. Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok said during a visit to the accident site that eleven injured people had been taken to a hospital in Bratislava.

According to authorities, the trains were an express train and a regional train. According to the Slovak Railway Company, one of the trains left a station despite a warning signal and although the departure was not planned. The second train hit the first train from behind at a speed of over 100 kilometers per hour. Police said alcohol and drug tests were negative for both train drivers. The causes of the accident are still being investigated. (sda/afp)
