Who doesn’t know it: When you lie awake in bed at night and can’t sleep, you like to use your cell phone to pass the time. This is also the case with Pope Leo XIV, as various media are currently reporting. But what does the Pope do on his cell phone at night?

The American pope spends most of his time in bed at night using the language learning app Duolingo. Reports have been circulating on social media for weeks that a user named @drprevost was learning German at night on Duolingo – the Pope also used this name on the Twitter platform. “Holy Father, it’s three in the morning, what are you doing?” said one user.
The Pope himself has never confirmed the Duolingo reports. His brother told the National Catholic Reporterthat @drprevost is actually the right pontiff. “I don’t doubt that, because he’s really learning German at the moment,” says John Prevost.
Prevost further explained that Pope Leo has other pastimes on his cell phone when he can’t sleep at night. He regularly plays “Words with Friends,” a kind of Scrabble, with his friends.
Pope Leo is also considered to be technologically adept in other ways. As the Republica reports, the 70-year-old also uses WhatsApp on his smartphone to contact friends and employees. He also apparently plays “Wordle,” a popular New York Times game in which you have to guess a word, almost every day. (dab)
