The desire to travel is increasing in Switzerland: Swiss people want to take more holidays abroad in the new year than in 2025.
On average, 2.2 foreign trips per person are planned for 2026, according to a report published on Wednesday Survey by the travel group Dertour Suisse emerges. In the current year there were 1.9 trips per person.
A third of those surveyed are planning two trips, 13 percent three and around eleven percent four to five. The four percent who want to travel even want to travel six times or more. The rest are planning one or fewer trips.
City trips are particularly popular
City trips are a trend, as the survey shows. These come just before beach holidays. “Active holidays” come in third place, which men in particular cite as their goal.
According to the information, the Swiss are also willing to save for trips. Almost half of those surveyed want to spend the same amount in 2026 as in the previous year. Almost a third plan to budget more money, ten percent even plan “a lot more”.
Younger generations in particular want to increase their travel budget. On the other hand, 15 percent of those surveyed want to spend “a little less” and 4 percent “much less” on vacations in the coming year.
“The desire to travel is unbroken”
For the survey, Marketagent Switzerland asked 1,001 people aged 14 to 75 about their travel plans on behalf of Dertour Suisse. The survey took place between November and December and is representative of the Swiss population.
“The desire to travel is unbroken,” said Christoph Debus, head of the German Dertour Group, in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” a few days ago. In Europe, the travel industry is predicted to grow by five to six percent annually. That is significantly more than the growth in gross domestic product. Long-distance trips in particular are being booked more frequently.
