After the death of a Hamburg mother and her two children on vacation in Turkey, a baker has now also been arrested. The daily newspapers “Cumhuriyet” and “Sabah” reported unanimously that he worked in a shop near the hotel in the Fatih district. This brings the number of those arrested to eight. There was initially no official confirmation.
According to reports, a person in charge of the hotel and two people who carried out disinfection in the hotel were previously arrested. According to the Ministry of Justice, four suspects were arrested on Friday. According to state broadcaster TRT, it is about sellers of sweets, stuffed mussels and a dish made from veal intestines (kokorec). They are reportedly accused of negligent homicide.
Tourists continue to be treated in hospital
Authorities have so far assumed that food poisoning was the cause of the death of the mother and her three and six year old children. On Saturday, two more tourists who complained of vomiting and nausea were taken to the hospital.
The head of the Istanbul Health Directorate, Abdullah Emre Güner, wrote on X that the condition of the two tourists was good and that they would continue to be monitored. Another holidaymaker who stayed in the same room as the two was examined because of a slow heartbeat. His condition is good. Nothing new was known about the condition of the father of the family, who is in the intensive care unit. (sda/dpa)
