A 22-year-old Syrian was arrested in the German capital Berlin because of a possible attack plan. A spokesman for the Berlin public prosecutor’s office told the German Press Agency on Sunday.
He is accused of preparing a serious state-endangering crime, said a spokesman for the Berlin public prosecutor’s office. Details about the possible location of the attack were not initially known. According to information from “Bild”, the man is said to have had a target in Berlin in mind. The arrest took place on Saturday in the Neukölln district.
The man is said to have shared propaganda from the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) several times on a social media platform. These are songs or anthems with a jihadist context, which are often published by the “Islamic State” itself with an invitation to share them. Jihadism refers to a radical form of Islamism.
A special operations team (SEK) was involved in the arrest on behalf of the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office, the spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office said. Materials suitable for building explosive devices were also seized. (dab/sda/dpa)
