Poland’s secret service has arrested five suspected agents. The public prosecutor’s office in Warsaw said there were two Ukrainian and three Belarusian citizens. The investigators accuse them of spying for a foreign secret service.
According to current findings, the five people are said to have maintained contact with representatives of a foreign secret service via the Telegram messenger service.
On their behalf, they photographed critical infrastructure objects and places that are relevant to Poland’s security. They were paid in cryptocurrency for their services.
Three suspects in custody
Three of the suspected agents were taken into custody, and a minor Ukrainian woman ended up in a detention center for juveniles. The fifth suspect was only given the condition not to leave the country due to his poor health.
If convicted, the alleged agents face a prison sentence of five to 30 years.
Poland is one of the main political and military supporters of Ukraine, which is attacked by Russia. The government in Warsaw accuses the secret services of Russia and its ally Belarus of sending many agents into the country and recruiting saboteurs.
