ChatGPT developer OpenAI is challenging Google and Apple with its own web browser. The idea behind it is to integrate the chatbot ChatGPT into websites.

At the same time, ChatGPT is intended to make it easier to find things you have seen online. OpenAI gives the example of asking ChatGPT to display the Halloween decorations you viewed last week. Functions where ChatGPT can independently carry out tasks on behalf of the user – such as booking a trip – are reserved for paying OpenAI subscription customers.
The browser, called Atlas, will initially only be available for Apple’s Mac computers. Google is currently the world’s most used web browser with Chrome. AI support is already being used there with Gemini. Apple’s rival software Safari has a strong position, especially on iPhones.
