He was actually supposed to drive a freight train from Tyrol back to Verona – but there were already problems in the station area: As the Tyrol police report, the dispatcher of the Austrian Federal Railway (ÖBB) had to switch off the power to a drunk train driver in Hall early on Wednesday afternoon.
The 50-year-old had previously stopped the freight train several times for no reason. He is also said to have ignored a protective signal and ultimately ignored an instruction from the dispatcher.
Revocation of driving license possible
After the dispatcher switched off the power to the train driver, the man went onto the tracks. That’s why an “emergency stop” by the railway employees was necessary. A spokesman for the Federal Railways explains to t-online that all rail traffic in the route area was stopped at such short notice. However, this did not lead to long-term traffic restrictions.
When the police arrived, it was discovered that the man was heavily intoxicated – as a police spokesman told t-online, his blood alcohol level was over 1.8. The man had to pay a security deposit in the low four-figure range. The security deposit is a type of deposit that is used to secure processes under Austrian law.
The train driver is also threatened with consequences from the ÖBB. It is possible for your driver’s license to drive railcars to be revoked for up to six months.
