The US Department of Justice announced loudly CNN announced that the photo in question (seen above), which shows, among others, Donald Trump with his wife Melania, Jeffrey Epstein and his assistant Ghislaine Maxwell, has been added back to the online database.
The photo was originally published on Friday as part of a large data set, but on Saturday it suddenly disappeared along with at least 15 other previously published files. This led to confusion and accusations of manipulation. The Democrats’ screening committee addressed Justice Minister Pam Bondi and asked her on X what else should be covered up.
The ministry initially did not comment on the deletions. However, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche had previously claimed that the current US government was “the most transparent in history” and that Trump had spoken out in favor of the full publication of the Epstein files.
Regarding the deleted files, the Justice Department later stated that they were removed to determine whether further redactions were necessary to protect victims. The files were “removed out of caution” and checked again.
It has now been discovered that no victims of Epstein can be seen in the photo, so it has now been republished “without any changes or redactions”.
As the New York Times reported, most of the other deleted photos showed Epstein’s massage room in his New York villa. Many of the attacks by the convicted sex offender, who died in prison, took place there. The US Department of Justice did not explain in its posts exactly why these photos were deleted. (con)
