The north of Japan has been shaken again by an earthquake. A call from the national weather agency for caution against tidal waves of up to one meter high on the coasts in the north and northeast of the island kingdom was later lifted. Waves of around 20 centimeters high had previously been observed on the coast of Hokkaido and Aomori Prefecture. However, there were no reports of injuries or damage.
The magnitude 6.7 quake struck off the coast of Aomori at a depth of 20 kilometers. The region was shaken by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake just a few days ago. More than 30 people were injured.
The weather agency then warned that another, possibly even stronger, earthquake could occur in the following days. (dab/sda/dpa)
