Workers at the Louvre Museum in Paris have called for a strike on December 15th. They are protesting against worsening working conditions and inadequate resources, as French media report.

Among other things, the employees are demanding new positions, especially in the reception and surveillance areas, “to compensate for the jobs lost in the past,” a union representative told the newspaper Le Monde. “The reception and surveillance teams are at the end of their strength because there is a lack of sufficient staff.”
From theft to burst water pipes
The strike announcement follows several incidents at the world-famous museum: on October 19, crown jewels worth around 82 million francs were stolen. Several suspects have now been arrested, but the jewelry is still missing.
In November, an outdated gallery had to be closed due to dilapidated support. It was only announced at the weekend that a water leak had damaged 300 to 400 specialist journals and documents from the Library of Egyptian Antiquities.
The Louvre confirmed that the heritage works in the library were intact. The documents should be dried, repaired and put back. The cause was an outdated hydraulic system, which will be replaced from September 2026. (dab/sda/dpa)
