According to Israeli sources, Germany and Israel have signed a contract to expand the Arrow 3 missile defense system. This was announced by Israel’s Foreign Ministry. The Bundestag Budget Committee had previously approved money for this on Wednesday. Israel’s Ministry of Defense spoke of costs equivalent to around 2.6 billion euros. The signing ceremony took place in Germany.
The construction of the system procured in Israel is a response to the threat from Russia. The defense system can destroy enemy missiles outside the atmosphere in early space with a direct hit – a capability that does not yet exist in the Bundeswehr.
According to Israeli information, the total value of the two agreements amounts to the equivalent of around 5.7 billion euros. It is the largest arms deal in the history of the Jewish state. (sda/dpa)
