The Tower of London has been closed until further notice following an attack on the Crown Jewels. Four people were arrested, the police said. The activist group “Take Back Power” published on the social media platform Instagram Videos that are supposed to show the incident: Two activists smear the display case of the Imperial State Crown, presumably with apple crumble and vanilla sauce.
Police said they received reports that food was suspected to have been thrown at the crown display case. Police were called to the world-famous exhibition at 9.48am UK time. The four people were arrested on suspicion of damaging property.
Protest action in the tower
The newspaper “The Telegraph” published excerpts from the video, and the PA news agency also quoted the activist group. This stated that it was a protest against the government with the demand, among other things, for large assets to be taxed.
Millions of people visit the Tower of London every year. The Crown Jewels, whose value to the United Kingdom cannot be measured, are the highlight of the exhibition. The State Crown is the crown that the monarch wears after the coronation. It is also used on other occasions, including the opening of Parliament.
