Nemo returns the 2024 ESC Cup to the EBU headquarters in Geneva to protest Israel’s participation in the competition. Nemo made the announcement on Instagram on Thursday, where the post received over 6,000 comments in less than 24 hours.
Nemo has received great support from the ESC community. The Portuguese singer Iolanda, who herself took 10th place at ESC 2024, commented:
“Forever on the right side of history.”
The Greek Marina Satti, also an ESC participant in the same year as Nemo, also writes:
“I love you baby.”
This year’s Swiss ESC participant Zoë Më also shows her support and comments on Nemo’s post with a heart, a handshake and a flower.

Further support for Nemo comes in the comments from, among others, Bambi Thug, the Irish ESC participant in 2024, and the Austrian singer Salena, who took part in the competition for Austria in 2023. Olly Alexander, former frontman of Years & Years and ESC participant 2024, also speaks out and comments:
The presenter Gülsha Adilji shared Nemo’s video on her Instagram story, expressing her great respect for his decision.
In addition, one of the largest ESC fan accounts, @eurovisioncrave, speaks out and thanks Nemo:
«And that’s exactly why you’re one of the best winners ever. Thank you for having values.”
However, there are not only positive reactions: many users post a heart-shaped Israeli flag under Nemo’s post without comment.
Nemo is not alone in his attitude. Iceland is the fifth country to have canceled its participation, after Spain, Slovenia, Ireland and the Netherlands had previously decided not to take part. (fake)
