US President Donald Trump has declared migrants from Somalia undesirable and described them as “trash”. “Their country stinks and we don’t want them in our country,” Trump said at a Cabinet meeting in Washington on Tuesday. “We will be going in the wrong direction if we continue to accept garbage into our country,” he said of the planned tightening of residence rules.

Trump made the comments against the background of an alleged welfare fraud affair in the US state of Minnesota. The investigators accuse native Somalis of diverting more than a billion dollars (around 860 million euros) for non-existent social services.
“Send them back where they came from”
On Friday (local time), Trump declared the temporary protection status for people from Somalia in Minnesota to be ended “with immediate effect.” He accused “Somali gangs” of harming US citizens. «Send them back where they came from. It’s over!” emphasized Trump.
The TPS (Temporary Protected Status) protection status protects its holders from deportation and gives them a work permit. It is granted to people who would be at risk if they returned to their home countries due to wars or natural disasters. It was first granted to Somalis in the USA in 1991.
Minnesota in the American Midwest is home to one of the largest Somali populations outside of the East African country, which has been rocked by violent conflict for decades.
