The 19-year-old had previously tried to establish contacts with the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS), said the spokesman for the secret service coordinator, Jacek Dobrzynski. “His goal was to kill and intimidate Poles.” The man was caught at the end of November and has been in custody ever since.
Suspect from a Catholic family
According to the information, the suspect is a student at the Catholic University in Lublin. He is a Polish citizen and comes from a “very Catholic family,” said Dobrzynski. The young man is fascinated by Islam. He acquired knowledge about how one could produce materials for an explosive attack.
The 19-year-old also planned to join a terrorist organization in order to get help in carrying out his planned act. Data carriers containing relevant evidence were found during two house searches. (sda/dpa)
