After persistent symptoms, his doctor decided to do an MRI “to make sure everything was okay,” Manilow wrote. This is when the cancer was discovered. The “Mandy” interpreter described it as “pure luck and a good doctor” that the disease was recognized so early.
The doctors assume that the cancer has not spread. Manilow is currently undergoing tests to confirm this. One chemotherapy or radiation is not necessary at first – “just chicken soup and repeats of ‘I Love Lucy’,” joked Manilow, referring to the well-known US sitcom from the 1950s.
Concerts have to be postponed
But due to his health, Manilow has to take a break for a while after the operation. He therefore told his fans: “The only aftercare is a month of recovery, which means we have to postpone the arena concerts in January.” He is therefore “very sorry that you have to change your plans. Just like you, we were all looking forward to the shows in January and think it’s a shame that we have to reschedule everything.” This involves several appearances in the USA.
However, Manilow wants to be back on stage in February. He gave his fans urgent advice: “Don’t forget: If you have even the slightest symptom… get yourself checked!”
Many fans have already reacted to Barry Manilow’s post. “Best regards and get well soon,” they wrote, among other things. One user commented: “Dearest Barry, we love you so much! Take your time and take care of your glorious self.”
