The case surrounding the publication of investigative files on sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has a new twist: According to the US Department of Justice, a million new documents have suddenly appeared that could be related to the scandal. The US government has been under great pressure for days to publish the already known investigation files – the legally set deadline of December 19th has long passed. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is once again attacking the Democrats in the opposition.
The Epstein case
For years, multimillionaire Epstein from New York ran an abuse ring that victimized dozens of young women and minors. He is said to have abused minors himself over several years in New York and Florida. In 2019, Epstein died in prison at the age of 66, before any further sentencing could have taken place.

The financier had excellent contacts in high society, which led to numerous speculations about the scope of the scandal. The question arose again and again as to which prominent figures might have been involved in Epstein’s machinations. A month ago, the law finally ordered the publication of the files, which Trump had long resisted.
The new files
The US Department of Justice has now surprisingly announced the discovery of more than a million documents that may be related to the Epstein case. The federal police, the FBI, and the public prosecutor’s office in New York (Southern District) have informed the ministry about the documents and they are now examining their release in accordance with legal and judicial requirements. The documents will be published “as quickly as possible”. At the same time, the ministry referred to additional weeks that this would probably take due to the scope.

It remained unclear how so many new documents suddenly appeared. It was also not clear from the communication when exactly the ministry had been informed about this.
Deadline has long since expired
The US government of Donald Trump and especially the Justice Department are under pressure because of the publication. The documents relating to the Epstein investigations should actually have been made available to the public by law by Friday last week – so far some of them can be viewed. Some files are blacked out in places.

The Democratic minority leader in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, accused Trump of a cover-up because of the newly surfaced documents. Americans deserve an answer to the question of what is being hidden and why, the opposition politician wrote on
Trump: witch hunt by the radical left
At Christmas, the US President continued his attacks against the Democrats, who had called for the Epstein files to be published, as had representatives from his own Republican Party. In a post on the Truth Social platform, he spoke of a “witch hunt” by the “radical left”. He also suggested in his post that there are Democrats on the record who will have a lot of explaining to do if that turns out to be the case. He called the Democrats’ policies corrupt. He concluded with the words: “Enjoy what may be your last Merry Christmas!”. (sda/dpa/val)
