Tragic end to a Christmas dinner with the family: In the Italian city of Turin, a man choked to death while eating dessert, probably from a bite of the traditional Italian Christmas cake panettone. The piece of cake and also a piece of tangerine obviously blocked his airways, numerous Italian media reports.

According to the Italian news agency Adnkronos, among others, a forensic doctor confirmed that the death was caused by a piece of panettone and a piece of tangerine.
The family members immediately alerted the rescue workers, who arrived within a few minutes, write the media, some of whom also published the name and photos of the deceased. However, the 47-year-old could no longer be helped.
Many people shared their sympathy on social media – and referred to a Facebook entry attributed to the brother of the deceased. “You will always remain in our hearts,” he writes on Facebook. (sda/dpa)
