I hope you had a peaceful Christmas – and maybe even received one or two gifts. Maybe your greatest gift was the cozy time with your loved ones, getting off the hamster wheel, the gentle constipation after half a kilo of moitié-moitié.
But no matter how real the joy was. No joy was more real than that of Donald Trump. For him and his followers it is Christmas all year round. Presents keep arriving. You just love giving him gifts.
And while many of us nonchalantly ignore the Christmas story when giving presents, the current US President generously ignores it Paragraph 7342 of Subchapter IV of Chapter 73 of Subtitle F of Part Three of Title 5 of the United States Code. Who wants to take it so seriously, yada, yada, yada.
There, in paragraph 7342, it would theoretically regulate how the president and federal employees should deal with gifts. To put it simply: Gifts from foreigners that are worth more than (currently) $480 would have to be declared and handed over to the public. But just. Yada, yada, yada.
The happy gift-giving began in February. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu presented Donald Trump with a gold pager – a reference to an intelligence operation in which nearly 3,000 Hezbollah members were injured using radio receivers laced with explosives.
The dedication is also nice: “To the best friend and greatest ally.”Image: Israel Government Press Office
Loud CNN Even Donald Trump is said to have found the gift somewhat tasteless. The second priceless present, the world championship belt of the Ukrainian heavyweight boxer Usyk, also did not meet Trump’s taste buds. The legendary meeting degenerated into a public exchange of blows, in which Vice President Vance in particular attracted attention with blows below the belt.

Russian President Vladimir Putin did better March. Trump was visibly touched by his gift, reports US “negotiator” Steve Wittkof. He delivered Putin’s present. It was an oil painting by the Russian artist Nikas Safronow. It shows a bloodied and slim Trump after the assassination attempt during the election campaign.
Also in March, Donald Trump received a glass bowl from Waterford filled with clover from Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin.

Things went up steeply with the gift-giving business May. There are no images we are allowed to use of Canada’s golf clubs presented to Trump. They are likely to have been quickly forgotten anyway, because in the same month the US President received a plane from Qatar worth 400 million.
The gift attracts a lot of attention. Donald Trump later said the plane would be given to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation at the end of his presidency. The terms of office are documented in the presidential libraries. They are affiliated with an authority and are publicly accessible. In return, Qatar received US security guarantees and plans for $1.2 trillion in economic deals.

In the June Trump received a gold-framed birth certificate from Chancellor Merz from his grandfather Friedrich, who had emigrated from Germany to the USA.
In the August The LA 2028 Olympic Board presented the President with a complete set of medals and a South Korean delegation surprised the President with a golf putter engraved with his name and the numbers 45 and 47.

As we will see later, the international agreement leaves a lot to be desired. Scotland also couldn’t think of anything better than an ancestry certificate (from Trump’s mother) and Ukrainian President Zelensky gave Trump another golf club. This had previously belonged to Kostiantyn Kartavtsev, a soldier who lost a leg in the fight against the Russian occupiers.
The reaction from Russia was immediate. A framed photo of Vladimir Putin arrived from Moscow with Donald Trump: “He will sign it and then send it back,” Trump claimed. Whether he Ibrahimovic move passed through is not known.
Apple also wanted to pay homage to the president in August. The tech giant did this with an engraved glass panel – which was incorporated into a solid 24-carat gold stand. Subtle.

In the September King Charles presented the insatiable US President with a certificate. This is almost a slap in the face, because Trump and Melania were visiting the British royal family. There are no reports of further gifts in September. That wasn’t a productive month.

Trump fared better on his Asian tour October. Before that, he received a Nobel Peace Prize nomination from Argentina’s President Javier Milei. It didn’t cost anything, but it meant the world to the US President. Then he got on the plane to Japan.

There was a new golf bag from the new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, signed by golf professional Hideki Matsuyama. This didn’t come empty. It was equipped with a putter that once belonged to Japan’s former prime minister Shinzo Abe. Trump was supposed to still have an undeclared set of gold bats lying around in Mar-a-Lago from his first term in office.

Japan’s submission trumped South Korea a day later. President Lee Jae Myung presented Trump’s visit with a ceremonial gold crown – and a Medal of Honor. After that, October was over again.
In the November showed Switzerland what real men of honor are. A delegation of business leaders did the impossible: they loaded the White House with even more gold. The president was given a A specially designed gold cube worth $125,000 was presented – and one Table Rolex. Trump then initiated a reduction in import tariffs on Swiss goods from 39 to 15 percent.

Current photos prove how much the Swiss delegation hit the president’s taste buds. The 1 kilo gold cube from Swiss manufacture still adorned Trump’s desk on December 12th and 15th. The gold Rolex, however, has disappeared. Where is currently unknown.
During Trump’s first term in office, various gifts that should have been declared disappeared. One investigation revealedthat Trump and his family embezzled 117 gifts from foreign dignitaries worth $290,000. This includes the aforementioned golden golf set from Shinzo Abe, an ivory dagger (worth $35,000), swords and daggers from Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, a winter coat ($3,000) and much more – not including all the business deals that were promised to the Trump Organization. It remains to be seen whether the Swiss gifts will also take the undeclared route.
