Last Friday, the US Department of Justice released new documents on the case of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. But instead of new insights, there were new disappointments – and instead of calming the waves, a new storm was ignited. These are the main reasons for this:
After months of delaying tactics, US President Donald Trump signed a law on November 19, the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which required the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) to release all Epstein files within a month. The deadline was last Friday (December 19th).
On Friday evening, the DOJ fulfilled its obligation – but not completely. To the frustration of the law’s authors, the DOJ only released a fraction of all the files: “Hundreds of thousands more files will follow in the coming days and weeks,” Assistant Attorney General Todd Blanche told Fox. The scope of the material was too large.
