According to the Ansa agency, the police used tear gas and water cannons to bring the situation under control. According to Ansa, seven police officers were injured, Rai News reported nine.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani condemned the riots. Demonstrating is a right. But destroying cars or hitting police officers who are doing their duty is not okay.
Left-wing politicians, however, said they demonstrated peacefully and were bitterly disappointed with the outcome of the day, which was the result of the evacuation of the Askatasuna center and an atmosphere of tension and fear.
Previously, devastation to the editorial team of “La Stampa”
The authorities evacuated the youth center a few days ago. The background was the devastation of the editorial office of the Turin daily newspaper “La Stampa” about three weeks ago, in which leftists with connections to the center were said to have been involved. They had marched from a pro-Palestinian rally to the newspaper office, breaking down doors and vandalizing the rooms. (sda/dpa)
