A small plane crashed at a regional airport in the US state of North Carolina. There were several deaths, the station WBTV quoted a local police chief from Iredell County as saying. The station WSOCTV reported that the aircraft was a Cessna C550 business jet. The plane crashed on approach to Statesville Regional Airport. Further details were initially not known.
Photos showed dark smoke over a runway. A witness told the station that the plane flew very low. The Statesville Regional Airport is about an hour’s drive from the city of Charlotte. (sda/dpa)
