Investigators were investigating an “international satanic child pornography abuse ring” when they identified the four suspects in Sydney, New South Wales state police said on Monday.

The four men are accused of possessing, distributing and making accessible child pornographic content through an internationally operated website.
The police said they arrested the suspects on Thursday. Among them is a 26-year-old who is accused of having a leadership role in the group. Police seized several electronic devices containing thousands of “disgraceful” video recordings of abuse of children between the ages of five and 12, as well as sodomy.
Based on the content the men shared and the conversations they had, “we were concerned about any children these people might come into contact with,” head of the sexual offenses unit Jayne Doherty said at a news conference. Police will work to identify the children in the footage and rescue them “as quickly as possible.” (sda/afp)
