The AfD’s new youth organization is currently being created in the German city of Giessen. After the end of the old, scandal-prone youth organization “Junge Alternative”, it is now to be made more professional. Nevertheless, one speaker in particular stood out over the weekend – because no one was quite sure whether he was serious about his appearance or not.
We’re talking about a young man named Alexander Eichwald. The 30-year-old stepped up to the microphone on Saturday evening and provided memorable minutes. With his jagged gestures, a rolling “R” and radical opinions, he reminded many people on social media of Adolf Hitler.
Here is the speech in the video:

Even other AfD members in the room didn’t seem to completely trust the matter. “Are you an undercover agent?” a person in the audience asked him into the microphone.
Now people in Germany across the entire political spectrum are wondering how serious Eichwald actually was with his speech. The 30-year-old is actually a member of the AfD in Herford, but seems to be relatively new there. “I didn’t know anything about the candidacy,” said Michel Schneidermann (22), AfD parliamentary group leader in the Herford city council, to the Bild newspaper. He has only known Eichwald for two months, since he started working for the parliamentary group as an informed citizen.
Schneidermann also said that Eichwald lied when he introduced himself as the designated youth representative for the Heimat AfD. In addition, it was unacceptable that he spoke of the “German national body”. Schneidermann explained that he is now preparing party expulsion proceedings against Eichwald. “This appearance was active damage to the party!”

As Bild further reports, there are certainly indications that Eichwald infiltrated the event in order to make fun of the party. He is said to have previously performed as the artist and musician Alex Oak. When the Bild newspaper asked whether he had appeared as Alex Oak, Eichwald replied: “I don’t think so.” And when asked whether he believed that or really didn’t do it, he replied: “Yes, I don’t think so. I’m not Alex Oak.”
The report also states that the man had already attracted attention in 2019 with a slapstick appearance – at that time as an intern at the Equal Opportunities Office in Herford. An organization that does not correspond to the values of the AfD.
Eichwald still says his appearance was meant seriously. The fact that this was perceived as unusual was because he had to shorten his ten-minute speech to three. He explained the rolling “R” by saying that he was Russian-German and only came to Germany when he was nine. “I was taught German with this R,” he says.
Meanwhile, Eichwald failed to achieve a political breakthrough. The 30-year-old only received 12 percent of the vote when he was elected, meaning he missed out on the board. (dab)
