The injured were being treated in hospital, Le Kim Thanh, the deputy head of the authority, told the German Press Agency. “This is a natural disaster – rocks and earth suddenly collapsed onto the bus.” A very large boulder hit the bus directly. The front part in particular was affected and completely deformed.
Heavy rain for weeks
The fire brigade and police arrived with two ambulances and around 20 emergency services, but were only able to reach the scene of the accident after midnight due to further landslides. According to reports, there have been heavy rains in the region in recent days and the ground has been completely soaked.
Just at the beginning of the month, heavy rainfall in central Vietnam triggered severe flooding. Dozens of people were killed. The places Hue and Hoi An, which are popular with tourists from all over the world and are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, were particularly affected. (dab/sda/dpa)
