After several drone sightings over sensitive infrastructure in Europe, Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has warned of increasing hybrid threats. At the World Security Summit, he said there were indications that some of these drone flights were coming from the so-called Russian shadow fleet.

The incidents occurred, among other things, over a Belgian nuclear power plant and over Liège airport. In Germany, too, drones have recently been increasingly reported over naval ports, armaments sites and other critical infrastructure.
Dobrindt emphasized that it is no longer enough to simply ward off attacks in cyberspace. “That is why we will create the legal conditions to enable targeted resistance against the aggressor in the future,” he said. The aim is to be able to disrupt or destroy servers and infrastructure abroad if they become a threat to Germany.
