Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney and Kendrick Lamar will all play the Glastonbury Festival this weekend, but Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already made his appearance.

A video message from the president of Ukraine was played on the big screens at The Other Stage (the British festival’s second-largest stage) at lunchtime on Friday.

Zelenskyy described Glastonbury as “the greatest concentration of freedom — and I ask you to share this feeling with everyone whose freedom is under attack.”

“Spread the truth,” he said, urging festivalgoers to “put pressure on all the politicians you know to help restore peace in Ukraine. Time is precious and every day is measured in human lives. The more people who join us in defending freedom and truth, the sooner Russia’s war against Ukraine will end. Prove that freedom always wins.”

After the speech, The Libertines took to the stage, with frontman Pete Doherty starting a chant of “Volodymyr Zelenskyy.”
