According to authorities, at least four people have been killed in new massive Ukrainian drone attacks in the Kerch area on the Russian-annexed Black Sea peninsula of Crimea. There were also 28 injured after the attacks, Moscow-appointed Crimea chief Sergei Aksyonov said on Telegram this morning. He didn’t give any details.
According to reports on social networks, there were several explosions and fires in different regions of the peninsula. A fire broke out in the fuel terminal in the port city of Kerch and a large cloud of smoke lay over the region, the Telegram portal “Krymski Weter” reported in the morning. The information cannot be independently verified.
Authorities also announced during the night that the Crimean Bridge between Kerch and the Russian mainland would be closed to car traffic. The port of Kavkaz on the Russian side of the Kerch Strait is also said to have been hit in the attack. There is also a fuel terminal and an oil depot there. Ukraine has been trying for weeks to cut off supplies to Crimea with increasing attacks.
No petrol for drivers
There is a gasoline crisis on the peninsula. The Moscow-appointed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvoshayev, informed Telegram this morning that fuel deliveries were continuing to be delayed. He said the allocation of petrol for motorists planned for Sunday had to be cancelled. Refueling is only possible for operational services.
Crimea’s tourism industry expects millions of vacationers to stay away this summer because of the Ukrainian attacks and the supply crisis. Russia had already annexed Crimea in 2014 and is also using it as a bridgehead in its war of aggression against Ukraine, which has been ongoing for more than four years. (sda/dpa)
