This graphic shows: Timmy’s situation in the Baltic Sea is getting dramatically worse

Timmy, the Baltic whale, remains in a precarious situation. The humpback whale has been stuck in Kirchsee Bay for over three weeks now. A rescue attempt that had been planned for days was prevented because Timmy swam off on his own on Monday when the water level rose.

The helpers then switched to Plan B. Now the humpback whale should no longer be lifted onto pontoons, but rather driven by ships towards the exit of the bay. After several hours, Timmy remained lying on a sandbank again.

As the German “Bild” reports, the team of helpers now wants to go back to plan A. Timmy is currently moving too much for that. The whale repeatedly hits the water with its pectoral fins. But there isn’t much time left for a rescue operation.

On Tuesday night the water level fell by almost 40 centimeters. On Tuesday morning, the whale rose several centimeters out of the water, as images from on site show. As forecasts by the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency show, the situation is likely to worsen in the next few hours.
