Lehmann has come under heavy criticism in recent days. The background is his involvement in a whale rescue operation on Timmendorfer Strand, which was also questioned by local authorities.
Lehmann has now published a video lasting over an hour in which he describes the events from his perspective and defends himself against the allegations. In it he explains that he was very concerned about the fate of the animal itself, but at the same time warns against an escalation of the debate.
In a statement he emphasizes that criticism must remain objective: “Frustrations must not lead to the discourse becoming unobjective and disrespectful.” At the same time, he condemns threats and personal attacks against those involved.
Lehmann also makes it clear that uncoordinated rescue attempts by private individuals are dangerous. Such actions without coordination with the authorities could be life-threatening and are “anything but productive”.
Meanwhile, the situation surrounding the stranded humpback whale off the island of Poel continues. A privately organized rescue operation is underway, but with no prospect of rapid success. The preparations were temporarily interrupted the day before to allow the animal to rest. The work continued today. (mke)
