After the earthquakes in Venezuela, 3,685 deaths have now been officially confirmed. In just 24 hours, the number increased by 150, according to a post by the President of the National Assembly, Jorge RodrÃguez, on the X platform.
Many international rescue teams have already left the South American country, others are still in action. Volunteers also continue to search among the rubble. Desperate relatives who still haven’t found their family members demand that the search continues until they are found alive or dead – so that they can at least be buried.
Earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 shook the country on June 24th. More than a thousand significantly weaker aftershocks followed. In the state of La Guaira in particular, numerous buildings are in ruins. Two weeks after an earthquake, experts say it is extremely unlikely that survivors will be rescued. (sda/dpa)
