Poland concluded arms contracts worth the equivalent of more than 28 billion euros within just a few days. According to the Ministry of Defense, 62 contracts were signed with domestic defense companies.
The projects are partly financed through the EU program “Security Action for Europe” (SAFE). Poland is the largest recipient of the funds and, according to government figures, can access around 43.7 billion euros.
Billions for drone capabilities
The ordered weapons, vehicles, ammunition and equipment are to be delivered by 2030. These include, among other things, armored personnel carriers, self-propelled howitzers, mortar systems and vehicles for rocket artillery.
Several billion euros are also being invested in expanding drone capabilities. Among other things, reconnaissance drones and so-called kamikaze drones are being procured.
The contracts were concluded just before a key deadline in the SAFE program. Later projects usually have to be implemented together with at least one other participating state.
