The death toll from an explosion in a Turkish coal mine had risen to 41, authorities said Saturday, with 11 workers hospitalized.
The explosion struck the mine in Turkey’s northern Bartin province on Friday.
In comments published by the news agency Bianet, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited the site Saturday and offered condolences to the families of those who had died.
“How this explosion happened and who is responsible will be revealed through judicial and administrative investigations,” he said.
All miners in the mine were now accounted for, state news agency Anadolu reported.
Turkey’s worst-ever mining disaster, which killed 301 workers in 2014, was also caused by an explosion.
“We no longer want to see any deficiencies or unnecessary risks in our mines,” said Erdoğan.
