LONDON — U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss will meet U.S. President Joe Biden this weekend as the pair prepare for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in London.
The U.S. President is one of numerous heads of state descending on London for the global event who has booked some one-on-one time with the new U.K. PM.
The pair will meet on Sunday for the first time since Truss won the Conservative leadership contest and was named prime minister, Downing Street confirmed. Officials refused to set out what the pair will discuss.
Truss will on Saturday meet Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. On Sunday she will meet Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada and Polish President Andrzej Duda, as well as Biden.
On the same day, she will also meet Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin, amid tension over the controversial Brexit agreement covering Northern Ireland. She will also have an audience with King Charles III on Sunday.
In the evening, she will attend a Buckingham Palace reception for visiting world leaders, and will observe a minute’s silence on the doorstep of 10 Downing Street.
The queen’s funeral will take place on Monday, now designated a bank holiday in the U.K.
