Spain reported its second monkeypox-related death as concerns grow about the spread of the disease.
In a situation report published on Saturday, the country’s Ministry of Health said Spain had 4,298 confirmed cases of monkeypox as of July 29.
Of the cases where information is available, 3.2 percent of patients have been hospitalized and two have died, according to the ministry.
Spain reported its first death on Friday, and the second on Saturday.
Earlier on Friday, Brazil confirmed the first monkeypox-related death outside of Africa in the current outbreak.
More than 11,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported since the beginning of the outbreak in the European Union and European Economic Area, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
The most cases have been reported in Spain, followed by Germany, France, the Netherlands and Portugal.
