Xi has been in the North Korean capital Pyongyang since Monday for a two-day state visit. Kim gave his guest from China a demonstratively warm welcome. Critical topics, including North Korea’s controversial nuclear program, have so far been left out of public statements by both sides.
It is the Chinese head of state’s first visit to the neighboring country in around seven years. China is considered North Korea’s most important political and economic partner. Recently, however, North Korea has significantly expanded its relations with Russia. (sda/dpa)
