According to the FBI, dozens of shots were fired near the White House in the US capital Washington. The alleged attacker is dead.

A person pulled a gun out of a bag and opened fire, then officers returned fire and hit the suspect, the Secret Service responsible for the president’s security said on the X platform. The person was pronounced dead at the hospital. An uninvolved passer-by was also injured during the exchange of fire.

CNN initially reported, citing an official, that two people had been shot and injured in a confrontation with the Secret Service near government headquarters. The broadcaster CBS News also reported, citing investigators, that two people were injured, including a suspect. A total of 15 to 30 shots were fired, the station reported.
Northern lawn area cleared after gunfire sounds
Several US media outlets had previously reported the sounds of gunfire and that the North Lawn of the White House had been cleared by the Secret Service. Reporters were instructed to quickly run to the White House press room. CBS News reporters also reported that the noise sounded like gunfire.
US President Donald Trump was reportedly in the White House in the capital Washington at the time of the incident. No officers were injured, according to the Secret Service. The incident is now being investigated.
